Father Luca Mannelli was a historian from Teggiano who lived between the end of the sixteenth century and the beginning of the seventeenth century. There is not much information about him on his life and vicissitudes, but his historiographical works on the Campania and Lucanian territory are considered of great value.
In fact, one of his well-known descriptions of the Macchiaroli Castle of Teggiano dates back to around 1660 and reads: «Deep and wide ditch, so that one can enter it for two bridges, one of which is closest to the door, rises at night if necessary. The factory is very large and solid, with eight large towers, one of which is the keep of the ancient fortress of Ladislaus, locked up, while another called the snail tower, double the height of the others to discover the enemy".
